About Keyword Tracking
Keyword Tracking is a tool in the MobileAction platform that lets you monitor how your app ranks for any keyword you choose, discover new keyword opportunities, and compare your rankings against competitors.
If you want to start adding keywords right away, go to Add keywords to Keyword Tracking.
How Keyword Tracking is structured
Keyword Tracking has three tabs.
The Tracked Keywords tab is the main view where you see all your added keywords with their performance metrics.
The Competitor Analysis tab shows how your app and your competitors rank for the same keywords side by side.

The Ranking History tab lets you plot ranking changes over time for up to five keywords at once, with the option to overlay competitor lines on the same chart.
What the Tracked Keywords table shows
Each row in the Tracked Keywords table represents one keyword.
The columns show:
- The keyword text and its type (whether it appears in Apple Ads and if it’s a brand keyword);
- Volume with a Volume History chart available on click;
- Relevancy score;
- Chance score indicating top 10 ranking potential;
- Difficulty score; the number of Ranked Apps competing for that keyword;
- And your current Rank with a change indicator showing movement since the last update.
- The Groups column shows which keyword group the keyword belongs to,
- Tracked At shows when the keyword was first added as a keyword
- And the Actions column gives quick access to live rankings and related keyword suggestions.
What keyword groups are for
Keyword groups let you segment your tracked keywords by theme, campaign, or any category that makes sense for your workflow.
You can filter the entire Tracked Keywords table by group, which makes it faster to focus on a specific subset of your keyword portfolio. A keyword can belong to more than one group at the same time.
What the keyword type badges mean
- Apple Ads: The keyword is active in your Apple Ads campaigns for the selected storefront. When you click on the badge, you’ll land a pop-up that shows the top apps running Apple Ads campaigns for that specific keyword.
- B (Branded): The keyword is identified as a branded term, meaning it is closely associated with the searched app.
- M (Metadata): The keyword is used somewhere in the title, subtitle or description of the searched app.
When to use Keyword Tracking
Keyword Tracking is most useful when you want a consistent view of how specific keywords are performing over time, rather than one-off research.
Add keywords you are actively targeting in your metadata or Apple Ads campaigns, keywords where competitors are ranking higher than you, and keywords you are considering adding to your metadata.
The Ranking History and Competitor Analysis tabs then give you the context to make data-backed decisions about where to focus your ASO efforts.
