Eligibility, limitations, and tooltips for advanced filters

This page explains when advanced filters and trend filters are available, and why some options may be disabled in Ads Manager.

Eligibility and limitations for advanced filters

One advanced filter per level

You can apply only one advanced filter at each level (Campaign, Ad Group, Keyword, and so on) at a time.
If you want to apply a new one, you need to remove the existing advanced filter first.

Supported levels

Advanced filters are available across most levels in Ads Manager, including:

  • Campaigns
  • Ad Groups
  • Keywords

At this time, advanced filters are not supported at:

  • Negative Keyword level
  • Search Term level

To build a filter on supported levels, see Advanced filters: build multi-level filters.

Filters don’t transfer across levels

If you switch from one level to another (for example, from Campaign to Ad Group), the current advanced filter setting is disabled.
This helps prevent confusion because not all conditions apply across levels.

Eligibility and limitations for trend filters

You can’t compare different metrics in the same trend rule

A trend rule can’t compare different metrics (for example, “Spend increase compared to Impressions” is not supported).

To build supported trend conditions, see Trend filters: filter by changes over time.

All trend filters in a group share the same comparison range

You can’t apply different comparison date ranges within the same filter group.
If one trend filter compares against the Previous Period, all other trend filters in that group align with the same comparison range.

Why options are disabled (tooltips)

If a filter, metric, or comparison option is unavailable, hover over it to see a tooltip explaining why.
Common reasons include:

Incompatible comparisons

Some comparisons are only available for compatible metric types (for example, money vs money or ratio vs ratio).
If a filter doesn’t support the comparison, a tooltip explains why.

Goal isn’t selected

Some filters, especially goal-related and cohort-based metrics, require selecting a goal first.
If a goal isn’t selected, these options are greyed out with a reminder.

To fix this:

  1. Exit the filter builder.
  2. Click the Goal dropdown.
  3. Select your goal.
