Read keyword performance metrics

Search Result/Keyword shows four headline metrics at the top of every keyword analysis. Together, they help you decide whether a keyword is worth bidding on, ranking for, or monitoring.

The four headline metrics

  • Volume: The search popularity score for the keyword. Higher volume means more searches, and more potential impressions for apps that rank or run ads on it.
  • Chance: An estimate of how achievable it is to rank for the keyword. A higher chance score means lower competition relative to the keyword’s volume.
  • Ranked Apps: The total number of apps ranking organically for the keyword in the selected market.
  • Apps running ads: The number of apps currently bidding on the keyword in Apple Ads.

How to use these metrics together

Read the metrics as a set rather than in isolation:

  • High volume and high chance mean a strong opportunity worth targeting.
  • High volume and low chance signals a competitive keyword where ranking organically will be difficult, so paid ads may be the faster path.
  • Many apps running ads means the keyword is already commercialized, so expect higher bid pressure.
  • Few apps running ads on a high-volume keyword can point to an underserved opportunity.
