Analyze free, paid, and grossing app rankings with Top Charts

The Top Charts tool gives you a clear view of the leading apps in the Google Play Store, segmented into Free, Paid, and Grossing rankings. Whether you’re tracking your own app’s movement, analyzing competitors, or researching category trends, this page offers a concise and customizable way to monitor leaderboard changes.

At the top of the tool, you can filter by store (App Store or Google Play Store), device type (for the App Store), category, date, and country. Once you apply your filters, the page will return the most up-to-date snapshot of app performance based on your selected parameters.

You’ll see three columns:

  • Free: Top-ranking apps that are available at no cost

  • Paid: Apps that require payment up front

  • Grossing: Apps generating the highest revenue through in-app purchases and subscriptions

Each app card includes:

  • App name and publisher

  • Category and star rating

  • Number of reviews

  • Estimated downloads or revenue, depending on the chart

This view allows you to quickly scan for app performance, compare review volume, and assess monetization impact.

How to use Top Charts for competitive research

This view is especially helpful when you're evaluating where your app stands relative to others in the same category. For example, if you're ranked #5 in the Free chart for Communication, you can look at who’s above or below you to identify trends in UX, pricing models, or creative updates.

Likewise, if a competitor climbs quickly in the Grossing chart, it may be worth analyzing their recent in-app event, subscription bundle, or pricing change using other tools like Promotional Content or Category Rankings.

Strategic use cases

  • Benchmark your app’s ranking position against others in the same category

  • Spot new entrants and fast risers you may want to watch closely

  • Track monetization trends by viewing the Grossing chart

  • Compare market behavior by switching between countries and dates

  • Export chart data with one click to use in reports or team updates
