The Promotional Content tool provides a real-time view of how apps are using the Google Play Store’s promotional slots to engage users and highlight new content. From seasonal campaigns and limited-time challenges to new feature announcements, this dashboard helps you track how apps are being positioned across editorial placements on the store.
Whether you're planning your next promotion or analyzing what’s working for top competitors, this tool gives you the visibility to act with confidence.
You’ll find two main tabs on this page: Category Events and App Events. Each gives you a different layer of insight depending on whether you’re scanning an entire category or focusing on a specific app’s timeline.
Category Events
When you land on the Category Events tab, you’ll see a grid view of live, ended, and available promotional content for your selected country and category. This view gives you a broader understanding of how other apps in your space are using Google Play Store promotions.
At the top of the page, you can filter by:
-
Country
-
Date range
-
Category (e.g., Games, Lifestyle, Health & Fitness)
Each event card displays:
-
A promotional banner, just like the one shown on the Google Play Store
-
The event type (e.g., Event, Major Update)
-
The event timeframe
-
The app’s name and category
You can click into any event to see its messaging and scheduled duration in more detail.
By scanning across multiple events, it’s easy to spot creative trends, understand campaign timing strategies, and identify recurring patterns used by leading apps.
App Events
The App Events tab narrows the view to one app, either your own or a selected competitor’s. This view lets you track exactly how a brand is using the Google Play Store’s promotional content slots.
Events here are separated into:
-
Live Events: currently running on the store
-
Ended Events: already completed but useful for historical analysis
-
Available Events: approved and scheduled but not yet active
This tab is especially useful when you're asking:
-
How frequently is this app promoted?
-
What themes or visuals are they using?
-
Are they leveraging seasonal opportunities, product updates, or user engagement hooks?
-
How often are they active in Google Play Store promotional slots?
This kind of visibility helps you build a campaign strategy that complements or competes directly with key players in your space.
Keep in mind!
If you're seeing a message that says "Promotional Content is exclusively available for Android apps," it means you're currently viewing the dashboard with the App Store selected as your platform.
To access Google Play Store promotional data, simply switch the platform to Google Play Store using the platform selector at the top-left corner of the screen. Once updated, the tool will display promotional events for Android apps only.
Use the Promotional Content tool to:
-
Track frequency and themes from top competitors: Spot who’s active and how they’re positioning themselves throughout the year.
-
Plan around seasonal trends: Whether it's Valentine’s Day, back-to-school, or Mental Health Awareness Month, you can identify when themes are peaking in your category.
-
Preview upcoming events: The Available Events section lets you see what’s about to go live, giving you time to respond, adapt, or plan complementary messaging.
-
Spot gaps in the market: If other apps in your category aren’t promoting during a particular window, that may be your opportunity to grab attention.
Final tip
To maximize your insight, pair the Promotional Content tool with Category Rankings and Featured Apps. Together, these tools reveal who’s promoting, how often, and whether those campaigns are translating into real visibility on the Google Play Store.
