The Category Rankings tool displays your app's ranking in its primary category (e.g., Health & Fitness) across countries and over time. Whether you’re monitoring growth, evaluating performance by region, or benchmarking against competitors, this tool provides both daily history and global snapshots in one place.
When you land on the page, you’ll see that it’s divided into two main tabs: Daily Ranking History and Daily Country Ranking. Each one offers a different angle to evaluate your app’s performance.
1. Daily Ranking History
This view gives you a chart that shows how your app’s category ranking has changed day by day. It’s especially helpful if you're monitoring the impact of an update, a paid campaign, or seasonality. At the top, you can choose the country, platform (iPhone or iPad), and which ranking set to view—Free, Paid, or Grossing.
If you want to add more context, you can toggle on App Updates and Annotations, which will place markers on the chart to help you link feature releases or content changes with ranking fluctuations. You can also switch between linear and logarithmic views, depending on how much movement your app experiences across the range.
Below it, you'll find a table that compares your app with any competitors you’ve selected. This table also shows your Organic Visibility Score, which gives an additional layer of insight beyond rank itself, especially useful if you’re looking to understand organic momentum versus overall store placement.
2. Daily Country Ranking
While the first tab shows how your app performs over time in one market, the second shows where your app stands globally on a specific day. This snapshot helps you instantly see in which countries you’re ranking well, which markets need more attention, and where your app might be completely unranked.
If you’ve selected "All Countries," the page will organize countries into groups: those where you’re ranked #1, within the top 5, top 10, top 100, and top 500. This makes it easy to identify patterns, for example, maybe you’re consistently in the top 10 in English-speaking countries but not ranking at all in others.
Scrolling further reveals the exact ranking of your app in each country under the selected category. These details are key when you’re trying to assess the impact of localization, regional campaigns, or category fit in international stores.
If you’re preparing for a launch, trying to measure the success of a version update, or just want to see how your category presence evolves globally, this tool gives you the full picture. Use the historical graph to evaluate momentum over time, and the country ranking tab to prioritize where to invest in growth or ASO improvements.
You can also export the data for reporting or stakeholder updates, and set alerts to monitor significant drops or gains in rank. This is especially helpful when tracking a competitor’s movements after a new feature release or pricing change.
