Track app version updates with App Update Timeline

App Update Timeline shows a chronological view of every app version update for any app you choose, so you can see how often an app updates, what changed with each release, and how your own release cadence compares to competitors.

Before you start

App Update Timeline works for any app available on the App Store or Google Play Store. You do not need to have the app added to your MobileAction platform account to view its update history.

You can add up to 9 competitors to the timeline view at the same time.

How to use it

1. Open App Update Timeline from the MobileAction platform navigation menu.

2. In the search bar at the top of the page, search for the app you want to analyze. Once selected, the app appears in the view along with its metadata, country settings, and basics.

3. In the upper right corner, set your date range. The timeline populates with dots representing update events within that period. Each row is an app, and each green dot marks a release day.

4. On the right-hand side, the “All update types” filter is selected by default. Use the dropdown to narrow the view to a specific update type, such as title, subtitle, screenshots, version release, or price change, so you can focus on the category of change that matters most to your analysis.

5. Hover over any dot on the timeline to see a quick summary of what changed on that day, including the version number and size. This is useful for spotting seasonal trends or identifying aggressive release activity at a glance.

6. To inspect a specific update in detail, click the dot. A panel opens showing a side-by-side Before and After comparison for that release date. Use the arrow buttons at the top of the panel to move between update dates without closing it.

7. To add competitors to the timeline, use the platform's global menu. You can add up to 9 competitors. Their update timelines appear as additional rows alongside your app, using the same date range and filters, so you can compare release patterns side by side.

Note: The competitor timeline uses the same steps as your own app. Select a competitor's dot to open the same Before and After comparison panel for their release.

After you finish
