Read the ratings summary and category benchmark

Ratings tool surfaces several widgets below the tab bar. Together, they give you a layered view of an app’s rating performance: how it scores overall, how that compares to the category, how it trends over time, how it varies by country and version, and how users feel about it.

Summary card and category benchmark

The summary card on the left shows the app’s average rating, total ratings count, and a star distribution breakdown from 1 to 5 stars. Next to it, the My Category Rating widget shows the average rating and average number of ratings across all apps in the same store category. Compare your average against the category benchmark to see whether your score is genuinely strong or simply matching the baseline in your space.

Ratings chart

The Total Ratings chart below the summary plots how ratings volume and average rating have evolved over time. Use the Daily, Weekly, and Monthly toggles to adjust the time grouping. Switch between Stack Column and Stack Area to change the chart format.

Toggle App Updates on to mark version releases on the chart and connect rating shifts to specific updates and toggle Annotations on to layer custom milestones, such as campaigns or external events, over the chart. The average rating line overlays the chart on a secondary axis alongside the star breakdown bars.

Country breakdown

The Country Breakdown widget shows how ratings differ market by market, with a star distribution bar and average rating for each country. Click See All to view the full list. Markets where the average rating is significantly below others can signal localization issues or unmet expectations in those regions.

Version breakdown

The Version Breakdown section compares ratings across app versions. Each row shows a star distribution bar and average rating for one version. Hover over any row to see the full star distribution, average rating, and total count for that version. Click See All to browse all versions. A drop in average rating on a specific version can point to a bug or UX change that was not well-received.

Sentiment analysis

The Sentiment Analysis widget categorizes ratings into three buckets: Supportive (4 to 5 stars), Neutral (3 stars), and Crucial (1 to 2 stars). The donut chart shows the proportion of each, with the total ratings count in the center. The distribution bars on the right break down each bucket by percentage and count. A growing Crucial percentage often points to a recent issue worth investigating.

Switch between tracked apps

Use the radio toggles below the app information section to switch which app’s data you are viewing. Click the plus button to add a competitor app to the toggle row. Switching between apps lets you compare ratings, version performance, and sentiment across your tracked portfolio.

Export ratings data

  1. Apply any country, date, and tab selections you want included in the export.
  2. Click Export as CSV above the chart to download the ratings data.
  3. Click Export as PNG to download the chart as an image for use in reports or presentations.
