Create an automation using templates

Templates are pre-built automation setups designed for common Apple Ads objectives. They help you create an automation faster by providing a default rule structure. You can choose from 20+ templates, and each one is fully editable to fit your needs.

If you prefer to build your own logic instead of using a template, see Create an automation from scratch.

On the Templates page, you can browse available options, filter them by category such as Bid, Budget, Goals, Notify, Optimize, or Pause, or use the search bar to find a specific template.

Note: Campaign and ad group templates can be applied across all ad placements. Keyword and search term templates are available only for Search Results campaigns.

To create an automation from a template:

1. Browse the available templates and select one that matches your objective.

2. Click the template card to open its detail page.

Review the template summary and click Show more to see:

  • where the rule applies
  • what action it takes
  • which conditions trigger it

For more details on how these settings work, see Set conditions for an automation, Add actions to an automation, and Set the schedule for an automation.

3. Click Use template to open the Create rule draft window.

4. Select the required fields to define where the rule will run.

The fields you see depend on the template’s level:

  • If the template applies to campaigns or ad groups, you select:
Ad Placement, Campaign Group, and App

  • If the template applies to keywords or search terms, you select:
Campaign Group and App & Goal
In this case, Ad Placement is automatically set to Search Results and is not shown.

5. If the template requires a goal, select one in the App & Goal field.

If no goal is available, you need to create a goal before continuing. For detailed goal setting, see Create and monitor your "Goals".

6. Click Apply to load the template into a rule draft.

7. Review the pre-filled rule. When ready, click Save Draft to keep it paused, or Set Active to activate it immediately.

8. After creating your automation, you can manage or edit it anytime from the Automations page. See How to manage Automations.
