About Keyword Trends
Keyword Trends is a tool in the MobileAction platform that shows you which keywords are rising or falling in search volume across the App Store, so you can spot emerging opportunities early and clean up keyword sets that are losing relevance.
If you want to start exploring trending keywords right away, go to Find trending keywords by category and storefront. To find declining keywords, go to Identify declining keywords to deprioritize.
How Keyword Trends works
Keyword Trends has two tabs.
The Uptrends Keywords tab shows keywords whose search volume is increasing over the selected time period.
The Downtrends Keywords tab shows keywords whose search volume is decreasing. Both tabs use the same table structure and the same set of filters.
The data is scoped to your selected app and storefront, and your app's rank for each keyword is shown in the rightmost column so you can immediately see whether you are already present for a trending term or missing it entirely.
What the table columns show
- Keyword: The keyword text. Click the plus icon at the left of any row to add that keyword directly to your Keyword Tracking list.
- Relevancy: How closely the keyword relates to your app, rated as Lowest, Low, Medium, or High.
- Volume: The keyword's current estimated monthly search volume. Click the chart icon next to any volume value to open a Volume History popup showing how that keyword's search volume has trended over time.
- Ranked Apps: The number of apps currently ranking for this keyword in the selected storefront.
- Metadata: Indicates whether the keyword appears in your app's metadata for the selected storefront.
- Your app's rank column: Your current ranking position for this keyword. Unranked means your app is not in the measurable ranking positions for that term.
How the category filter works
The category dropdown at the top right of the table filters the keyword list to a specific App Store category or subcategory.
The dropdown shows each category with its count of uptrending and downtrending keywords displayed as green and red numbers, respectively.
Categories with subcategories expand with an arrow so you can drill down to a more specific segment. Selecting a category or subcategory updates both the Uptrends and Downtrends tabs to show only keywords relevant to that segment.
How the time period filter works
The time period selector (Last 14 Days, Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days) controls the window over which trend direction is calculated.

- Shorter windows surface fast-moving, potentially seasonal terms.
- Longer windows show more sustained trends.
- Switching between periods can reveal whether a keyword's momentum is a short-term spike or a longer-term shift.
How the Translation toggle works
The Translation (EN) toggle translates keyword text into English when working with a non-English storefront. It does not apply to English-speaking storefronts such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and Jamaica.
When to use Keyword Trends
Keyword Trends is most useful when you want to find emerging search opportunities before they become highly competitive, or when you want to audit your existing keyword set for terms that are losing traction.
Because the tool shows your app's current rank alongside each trending keyword, you can quickly identify gaps (uptrending terms you are not yet ranking for) and add them to Keyword Tracking to monitor your progress.
